Teaching and Coaching

Alongside his career as a concert pianist and recording artist, Nicolas Costantinou is also a piano professor with international experience. He has over twenty-five years of teaching experience across all levels, dedicating himself to his students’ development, both technically and artistically, while fostering their confidence and enjoyment in performing.

He offers lessons to teenagers, university students, and professional pianists, helping them improve their performance, refine their technique, and develop a healthy relationship with the instrument. In selected cases, he also teaches chamber music and art song (Lied). Many of his students have won national and international competitions and have continued their studies at leading universities and music academies worldwide.

His teaching approach is enriched by his interest in historical performance practice and the Taubman Approach, which he applies to prevent and rehabilitate injuries resulting from improper hand use, providing each ambitious pianist with a healthy, efficient, and sustainable technical foundation.

Lessons are offered in-person or online, both for students in Cyprus and for those abroad.

Masterclasses & Institutional Collaborations

Nicolas Costantinou has experience giving piano masterclasses at schools, conservatories, and other institutions in Cyprus and internationally. The sessions focus on piano performance and technique, based on the Taubman Approach, and are tailored to the needs of each participant or institution.

Masterclasses and collaborations can be organised in a variety of formats, depending on the requirements of the institutions and participants.

The Taubman Approach

The Taubman Approach is a comprehensive method for understanding and coordinating the movements involved in piano playing. Developed through decades of research and pedagogical work, it offers practical solutions to many of the technical challenges pianists face, while promoting a healthy and efficient relationship with the instrument.

At the heart of the approach is the idea that musical intentions must be supported by coordinated, natural movement. By learning how the arm, hand, and fingers work together as an integrated unit, pianists can eliminate unnecessary tension, improve control and clarity, and achieve greater technical and, by extension, musical freedom.

For many students, this work leads to significant improvements in tone production, accuracy, endurance, and reliability in performance. It is equally valuable for advanced pianists seeking to refine their technique and for those experiencing physical discomfort or injuries related to piano playing.

In his teaching, the Taubman Approach forms an important foundation for developing a healthy, efficient, and sustainable technique. As a Certified Taubman Instructor trained through the Golandsky Institute, Nicolas Costantinou applies these principles in a practical and individualised way, tailoring technical work carefully to each student’s repertoire, level, and individual needs.

His own encounter with physical challenges related to piano playing led him to study the Taubman Approach in depth. This experience deepened his understanding of healthy piano technique and continues to inform his teaching, particularly when working with students who wish to prevent or overcome technical strain.

“Nicolas Constantinou has been my piano teacher and mentor since I began my studies at the Music School of Nicosia in 2015. Being his student has been, and continues to be, a great privilege. He has taught me the true meaning of craftsmanship, offering a wealth of knowledge in historical performance practice, piano technique, and professionalism, both within and beyond the music profession.
